Hats

I know I'm like over a week late to post this but I've been pretty crazy mad busy.

Hats wasn't really a hard one for me considering I live in a sunny place full of holiday makers wearing sunhats and on top of that half the population of Gambia are rastas and so wear rasta hats. My big problem is I get a bit self-conscience when taking photos so although I saw loads of hats I didn't want to look like an idiot! So I opted for this inconspicuous photo of 2 guys sat in front of me at the football match the other day.

Love

This weeks challenge was love.

It seemed a fairly obvious choice what with valentines day and all that.
Unfortunately no over the top showings of love for me. Wasn't showered with flowers or chocolates or anything except a facebook message... always the romantic!
Luckily for me, my children at school love me. This was given to me by a little girl, 8 years old Celena. She loves me.

Religion

This weeks challenge is religion.

I've taken a photo of one of the kettles used here in Gambia by Muslims to perform their ablution. This is the ritual that is performed before prayers. They must perform a sacred washing of the hands, arms, feet, face including ears nose and mouth before they pray.

Wordthink Wednesday #3

Today's Wordthink Wednesday is:

Today's Wordthink Wednesday was a bit haphazard. I totally forgot it was Wordthink day but luckily I had taken my camera out to work with me. I think discovered that the battery's had run out... so I felt a bit deflated. I had to use my phone and that really doesn't take great photos. Anyway, I took a photo of our headmaster. He can be a bit Pedantic, as can a lot of Gambians. Which is strange seen as most of the time they are so relaxed they could be lying down! But when it comes to the professionals who have jobs, pedantic is the word!

Wordthink Wednesday #2

Todays Wordthink Wednesday is

This is a photo of my extension lead portraying the electricity in Gambia. It is very quick and changeable in temperament. It comes and goes, sometimes for hours on end and sometimes for a few minutes. Sometimes the current is a lot stronger than other times which is why I must have a surge adaptor.

This weeks challenge is "Everyone help"
This was easy for my which is why I've done it within one day! Here in Gambia everyone loves to help everyone else whether it's to help solve a problem, to help fix a car, to go with them on a mission, to eat... whatever they are doing, it is very rare Gambians will do anything alone.
I snapped some of the children from school today. We had finished eating and there was quite a lot left so we called them over to help us finish up... it didn't last long!

Wordthink Wednesday #1

So I've introduced a new little challenge to our challenges. Wordthink Wednesday. Every Wednesday we will all use the word on Wordthink and use our artist flare to portray this in a photo.

I was reading through the Daily Mail that a friend brought in from England yesterday. I found this article and thought that maybe the Doctors involved were a little precipitous.

Storage

So this weeks challenge was "storage"
Very random word there from my sister (Jen) but interesting enough to have to think. I could have just taken a photo of my wardrobe... or my shelves... or even my Ryvita tin which is the storage for my tea bags. Boring I thought. So I left it and left it. Today I made the most delicious baguette. Filled with tomato, lettuce, cheese and a good dollop of Mayo. Then it hit me. The Baguette! What brilliant storage for tomatoes, lettuce and cheese!!

Space

This week our challenge was space.
I thought it might be a bit boring to just take a picture of the sky... so I was looking out for big open spaces but there's not many of them around here.
Today I finally got time to watch the Twilight Saga. I got it for Christmas. There was space staring me straight in the face... maybe a boring photo but a good set of films!!

New beginnings

So I've now left England and am back at my second home, Gambia, West Africa.
This week was pretty easy for me. New beginnings.
This my new home in Gambia where I will be staying for now, until I get a place of my own. I'm just renting a room in this house at the minute. I have come back to Gambia a different person to the one that left and this does actually really feel like a new beginning. A beginning to the next chapter in my life.
I'm gonna post a few pictures of my new place.

Challenge 2 - New Beginnings

We've now just about completed our dictionary challenge and with everyone going back to work and the holidays coming to an end we are going to be doing a challenge a week. I guess we might post more than 1 photo of that challenge but I know I for one will not have time to do the dictionary thing every day once I'm back in Gambia. So this week I'm looking out for new beginnings.
